HIMALAYA

Himalaya is a mountain ranges in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.

Himalaya is a place where the highest mountains in the world, such as Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, is located. Etymologically, Himalaya means "abode of snow" in Sanskrit (from Hima "snow", and aalaya "residence").

Himalaya extends along the five countries - Pakistan, India, China, Bhutan and Nepal. He is the source of the world's two major river systems - the River Indus and Ganga-Brahmaputra River. Approximately 750 million people live in the area around the flow of water from the Himalayas, including Bangladesh.




Geography
Himalayan sequence has a length of about 2400 km, from Nanga Parbat in the west to Namche Barwa in the east. Its width varies between 250-300 km. Himalayas consist of three parallel rows, arranged according to height and age geologically.

Impact on politics and culture
Himalayas because of their large size and broad, has become a major natural barrier to humans since ancient times. Especially, the prevention of the relationship between people from the Indian subcontinent with people from China and Mongolia, leading to very different languages ​​and cultures of the region.

Himalaya has also trade routes and prevented military expeditions through it. For example, Genghis Khan could not expand his empire to the south of the Himalayas towards the Indian sub-continent.
